Welcome to what's trending in the world of health and wellness. Here you get a blend of my personal favorite products, time-saving recipes and the truth about nutrition!

Hi, I'm mary

Food Network reached out to me about NOVOS Bars — the new protein bar with 20 superfoods, built-in supplements, and a “younger for longer” tagline. Price tag: $48 for a box of 12. Recommended dose: one to two per day. Do that math and you’re spending somewhere between $1,460 and $2,920 a year. On bars.

So do they work? Here’s what I said.

The “live longer” part is where it falls apart

There’s a lot of chatter around longevity right now, and any product promising to keep you younger for longer skews more marketing than science.

The truth is far less exciting: longevity is built on a whole pattern of habits, not any single product. One bar won’t undo a week of fast food or make up for weeks of a sedentary lifestyle.

What actually moves the needle

The unsexy stuff. Which is exactly why nobody’s selling it in a box:

  • Your overall eating pattern. The Mediterranean framework — produce, legumes, extra virgin olive oil, whole grains, nuts, seeds, with moderate fish, poultry, and dairy — is consistently linked to lower inflammation and longer life.
  • Your gut. Feed it the 3 Ps: probiotics (kefir, yogurt, sauerkraut, kimchi), prebiotics (legumes, leeks, asparagus, oats), and polyphenols (berries, olive oil, turmeric, green tea). A healthy microbiome influences immunity, inflammation, and the gut-brain axis.
  • Muscle. We lose 3 to 8 percent of lean muscle per decade starting around 30. Strength training plus enough protein spread through the day is how you keep your mobility and independence later.
  • Sleep and people. Both are linked to better cognitive and physical health. Cook at home more, eat with people you like.

None of that will trend on TikTok. All of it works.

Consistency is the real longevity hack. Not a bar.

The takeaway

Buy the bar if it fits your budget and your schedule — just buy it for what it is: a convenient, well-built snack. Then go put your energy into the habits that compound over decades.
